THE BERLIN CONVERGENCE LAB

May 25-29, 2026

After Fusionauts' Quest Fusion Festival

What is this thing?

The Berlin Convergence Lab is a five day intensive dance training taking place after the fusion dance festival Fusionauts’ Quest in Berlin, Germany.  It’s meant for experienced dancers and has a video audition to attend.

What is the theme of this intensive?

COMBINING DANCE FORMS:  The art of mixing, blending, and layering.

We’ll explore what it actually takes to blend styles in a way that feels intentional, musical, and embodied, rather than like a collage of “cool stuff.” Mark and Flouer will be doing this based on the dances and styles they know—both have backgrounds in blues, lindy hop, and tango, and they love to mix techniques from WCS and Zouk into their dancing.

You’ll get a lot of specific vocabulary and information, and we’ll also share practical concepts about layering and combining movements (rhythm, tone, shape, and connection) that will help you build your own mixtures of dance forms. The goal is to leave with new material to play with and a clearer process for how to blend forms with more freedom, coherence, and personal voice.

Why should I take this training?

Because you want to level up.

Because you feel like there’s more to fusion that what you can get locally from specific dance forms.

Because you want dedicated time to making fusion feel a little less like guesswork and more artfuly crafted

This training is for dancers who want the why behind the what:
  • How the fusion of danceforms works at its essence
  • How to blend forms without getting muddy
  • How to build a dance that makes sense to your partner and the music
  • Where the pieces come from (yes, we’ll honor history and culture while feeding your inner dance nerd)

What you’ll get out of it:
  • More tools for mixing, more range for connecting, more musical options
  • A clearer technical map of what you’re doing and why it works
  • The ability to dance well to more kinds of songs, not just the ones that match your “home style”
  • New vocabulary coming from mixing and layering dances that will help you level up

Your Instructors:
Flouer & Mark

Mark and Flouer are an intercontinental teaching team known for pairing deep care with serious craft. They have been teaching together at festivals since 2018, and launched their Fusion Teacher Training in 2024. Together, they’re a powerful duo—blending different yet complementary teaching styles to offer multiple pathways into partner dance. Grounded in a shared value system and ethics around dance theory, culture, and community, they balance rigor with play as they help dancers expand both technique and creative voice.

Flouer—from New York City and now based in Italy—is equally recognized internationally for both Blues Dance & Fusion Dance. She has an MFA in contemporary and decades of experience across other partnered and solo forms. Dancing “fusion” since 1999 and teaching internationally since 2011, she’s known for her warm, academically rigorous approach that gives dancers clear structure for improvisation and self-discovery.

Mark—based in SF, California—is an internationally acclaimed Fusion instructor, DJ, and event organizer who has helped shape the global scene for more than a decade.  He founded the Fusion Dance Academy and created events like & All That Jazz, the SLO Exchange, and Fireside Fusion, drawing from styles like Lindy Hop, Blues, and Tango to make the impossible look easy—and the easy look impossible.

What is the structure of the intensive?

What will we actually do?

Each day, you’ll participate in six hours of classes, learning directly from Flouer & Mark, as well as working closely with your peers.

The opening session will set the groundwork and prepare us for our week together; the closing session will help us take our learning out into the world.

The first hour of every day is working on solo and partnered preparatory techniques for that day’s learning.

We’ll explore specific techniques, rhythms and vocabulary from dances that Mark and Flouer participate in, then work on layering and mixing these elements

You’ll also get time to work with your peers through exercises designed to help you create and explore concepts together.

Convergence Berlin Schedule 2026

Where will we be learning?

Our gorgeous studio on the river...

The spacious studio we reserved for the week is called Spreefield Bootshaus.

With gorgeous wood floors and plenty of sunlight, it offers an open space for movement and learning.  You can pick up your lunch at restaurants nearby, or use the minimal kitchen facilities to prepare something.  We are nestled in amongst a tree lined path and only steps from a sandy beach on the river, which provides a beautiful place for both introverted solo time and socializing with your friends.

What is Fusionauts' Quest?

A fusion dance festival with workshops, great parties and awesome venues in Berlin.

We are partnering with this sweet festival, taking place the weekend before The Convergence Lab. (tickets sold separately)

Space Camp:  This year, they are featuring 19 talented teachers from across the continent. After an extensive application and selection process, they hope to have crafted a program for you that highlights the diversity and breadth of the European fusion scene. All classes are open to all levels of dancers (with some partner dance experience).

Masterclasses: Next to their regular workshops, Fusionauts’ Quest is collaborating with Flouer & Mark to offer masterclasses for advanced Fusion dancers.  It’s a chance to dive extra deep with dancers pre selected through audition process. Workshop days can be booked separately.
Friday Afternoon:  Rooted in Rhythm: Advanced Explorations.
Saturday Afternoon:  Stretching the Moment: Techniques in Lyrical Fusion

What dancers have said...

"This was a week full of fusion dance insights for me - very intensive, but also very playful and fun. Flouer and Mark are a perfect team that complements each other well. They made the week an extremely moving and inspiring experience. Thank you so much!"
- Tina
Lucerne, Switzerland
"Flouer and Mark are deeply knowledgeable - both in theory and embodied practice - and they love to share their expertise.
Their frameworks for understanding fusion and breaking down pedagogy are both accessible and inspiring, and will change the way you think about your dance forever (in the best ways possible!)! It is clear that they deeply love what they do, and their passion for teaching is infections."
- Bea Martino
Portland, Oregon
"This was more than a training. It was a space where we all softened, showed up, stretched, stumbled, created, and came home to ourselves; together. I learned so much."
- Kière Joi
Greenville, South Carolina

Is this Convergence Lab for me?

Do I need to have experience in all the dance forms we’ll be combining?

No! We don’t expect everyone to arrive with the same dance background. Participants will come in with different home styles, and we’ll teach the key elements of the forms you don’t know.

What you do need: experience learning at least one codified dance form—meaning you’ve trained in a style with specific rhythms, patterns, technique, and partnering principles (not just “I dance socially sometimes”).

This intensive is for you if…

  • You are an experienced dancer who wants to level up both your dancing and your theory of how to blend dances.
  • You have experience learning at least one codified dance form (such as Lindy Hop, Brazilian Zouk, Blues, Tango, Salsa, WCS, etc.)
  • You want to participate in the style of fusion where we combine and layer dance forms.
  • You want to actually change the way you are dancing… not just do the same thing over and over.
  • You love being a dance nerd, and you’re open to exploring new ways of moving—even if they feel unfamiliar at first.
  • You like to work with others and share in a collaborative environment. This is a higher education level training camp.  We’ll be treating you as researchers and discoverers.

Who is it not for?*

  • You’re brand new to partner dance (roughly 1–2 years total experience). This will be far too much information at once.
  • You’re not open to feedback or being a beginner again in unfamiliar movement patterns.
  • You’re not interested in a collaborative, research-style environment—asking questions, comparing notes, and helping your peers learn.
  • You prefer learning through a small amount of material with lots of integration time (for example: a few hours a day plus social dancing). That learning style is great! But it’s not this intensive week. (Check out Camp Kaleidoscope in Bristol instead if this is you.)
