What is the Fusion Teacher Training?
The Fusion Teacher Training (FTT) Project is our way of investing in the future of fusion dance by empowering the next generation of teachers, leaders, and community builders.
Rooted in over two decades of experience, we’ve created a multi-module training pathway that blends physical technique, intellectual clarity, and practical teaching skills.
Our goal is to raise the standard of Fusion instruction worldwide while nurturing dancers who are passionate, thoughtful, and ready to share their love of Fusion in their own communities.
This project is where curiosity turns into craft, where fundamentals meet artistry, and where dancers grow into confident, capable teachers who understand both the heritage and the evolving future of Fusion.
Our Modules
MODULE ONE
MODULE TWO
MODULE FOUR
- Module One is about building a deep, reliable foundation for your fusion dancing. This includes both physical skills and dance theory.
- We work intensely on fundamental ideas such as tone, frame, momentum, balance, and leading/following. We give you content on how these fundamentals change depending on the dance style you come from.
- You’ll gain language, clarity, and range surrounding important ideas we use every day in our dance.
- This module is also open to experienced dancers who are not necessarily interested in going on to teach.
- Module Two focuses on the teaching skills required to teach beginners and create local fusion classes that are clear, engaging, and supportive.
- This module addresses the realities of teaching: how to present yourself in front of a group, how to choose appropriate material, and how to decide what your students actually need next. You will learn how to structure classes in a way that helps students feel successful without overwhelming them.
- The emphasis is on clarity and creating learning environments that feel good to be in. By the end, you’ll have a stronger sense of how to guide new dancers into fusion in a way that supports long-term growth.
- Module Four is about refining your personal teaching voice through in-depth 1:1 and small group mentorship.
- At the end of our week together you will teach an in-person class in a workshop environment. Mark & Flouer will help you develop your class, give you exercises to refine your teaching, and give you feedback after you teach.
- This module supports the transition from teaching competently in your local scene to teaching at festivals with your own personality.
Why is there no module 3?
Module 3 was originally meant to bridge the jump from local teaching to workshop teaching—but we’re currently reassessing what the community actually needs next.
For now, we’re happy with the structure as-is: Modules 1 + 2 can be taken together, and the space between Module 2 and Module 4 is intentional—it reflects the real time, experience, and learning it takes to grow between those levels. TBD!
Who is this for?
The FTT Project is for dancers who feel that pull toward leadership—people who want to teach, strengthen their local scene, and deepen their high-level understanding of fusion partner dance.
It’s for you if:
-
You’re an experienced partner dancer ready to refine your fundamentals and elevate your technique.
-
You want to become a more informed, organized, and articulate instructor.
-
You value both the physical and intellectual sides of dance learning.
-
You’re excited to plug into a community of like-minded movers who love Fusion as much as you do.
-
You’re willing to work intensively, challenge yourself, and treat your craft with care and curiosity.
The FTT Project is not for complete beginners, dancers seeking only styling or flashy moves, or those who prefer a slow-paced learning environment. This is immersive, higher-education-level training designed for dancers who love depth, rigor, discovery, and growth.
WHERE ARE WE?
Here’s a map of where our past and current program participants have come from.
Many are building their own local fusion scenes, some are teaching festival classes, others have focused on organizing, and some creative souls are using their FTT skills to enhance careers in embodiment or other therapeutical offerings.
YOUR INSTRUCTORS: MARK & FLOUER
Mark and Flouer are an intercontinental teaching team known for pairing deep care with serious craft. They have been teaching together at festivals since 2018, and launched their Fusion Teacher Training in 2024. Together, they’re a powerful duo—blending different yet complementary teaching styles to offer multiple pathways into partner dance. Grounded in a shared value system and ethics around dance theory, culture, and community, they balance rigor with play as they help dancers expand both technique and creative voice.
Flouer—from New York City and now based in Italy—is equally recognized internationally for both Blues Dance & Fusion Dance. She has an MFA in contemporary and decades of experience across other partnered and solo forms. Dancing “fusion” since 1999 and teaching internationally since 2011, she’s known for her warm, academically rigorous approach that gives dancers clear structure for improvisation and self-discovery.
Mark—based in SF, California—is an internationally acclaimed Fusion instructor, DJ, and event organizer who has helped shape the global scene for more than a decade. He founded the Fusion Dance Academy and created events like & All That Jazz, the SLO Exchange, and Fireside Fusion, drawing from styles like Lindy Hop, Blues, and Tango to make the impossible look easy—and the easy look impossible.
